APNSS Chronology

Late 1930s Early interest in forming a club specializing in used plate number singles, interrupted when many of the principals serve in WW II.

1947 Group forms a club specializing in used plate number singles

1952 Antonio Hebert publishes the first edition of Hebert's Standard Plate Number Single Catalogue

1960s George Shapiro publishes several editions of Hebert's Standard Plate Number Single Catalogue

1969 George Shapiro publishes the 7th edition of Hebert's (dated 1970)

1974 George Shapiro publishes the 8th edition of Hebert's (dated 1975)

December 1976 APNSS formally organized, assigns membership numbers. Peter Corradi is member #1 and first President, Martin Wilson #3 is the first Secretary. Other founding members include Edward Stribbing #9, Vernon Piske #6, Michael Owens #4, William Norris #8, Leonard Diamond #7, and Bill Walsko #10.

1978 George G. Shapiro #46 and Antonio Hebert publish the 9th edition of Hebert's (dated 1979)

1982 Hebert's edition published by George Shapiro (dated 1982-1983)

1987 Hebert's edition published (dated 1988)

August 1988 APNSS accepted as American Philatelic Society Affiliate #AF0178. Robert deViolini #283 is our first affiliate coordinator.

1992 14th edition of Hebert's published

1994 15th edition of Hebert's published. This was the last edition published by George Shapiro.

1996 Jim Ragsdale #218 publishes the 16th edition of the Hebert's Standard Plate Number Single Catalogue

1997 Jim Ragsdale publishes the 17th edition of Hebert's (dated 1998)

1999 Jim Ragsdale publishes the 18th edition of Hebert's (dated 2000)

July 2002 Jim Ragsdale publishes the 19th edition of Hebert's (dated 2003)

August 2003 APNSS meeting at APS show in Chicago

October 21, 2003 APNSS website started with Rick Burdsall #473 as webmaster

January 2004 APNSS meeting at APS show in Tucson, Eric Chaulsett #584 elected APNSS president

July 2004 Jim Ragsdale publishes the 20th edition of Hebert's (dated 2005)

December 2011 Longtime Plate Numbers editor and APNSS auction director Milt Keiles retires. APNSS president Eric Chaulsett takes on these new roles.

April 2012 APNSS treasurer Jim Ragsdale retires, named APNSS Vice President. Rick Burdsall appointed APNSS treasurer.

November 2012 APNSS attends Chicagopex show in Itasca IL

December 2012 APNSS elections for three year terms Jan. 1, 2013 - Dec. 31, 2015. Eric Chaulsett retires as APNSS president, Doug D'Avino retires as APNSS director. Rob Anderson of Massachusetts elected president, Jim Ragsdale of Arizona continues as vice president, Rick Burdsall of Illinois continues as secretary and treasurer, James Cochrane of Kansas continues as director at large, Eric Chaulsett of California and Steve Shulkin of California elected as directors at large.

December 2013 Plate Numbers editor and APNSS auction director Eric Chaulsett retires. APNSS president Rob Anderson takes on the new role of Sales Director (replacing Auction Director), and Rick Burdsall becomes Plate Numbers editor.

May 2014 APNSS attends Compex show in Arlington Heights IL

May 2015 APNSS attends Compex show in Arlington Heights IL

December 2015 APNSS elections for three year terms Jan. 1, 2016 - Dec. 31, 2018. Rob Anderson of Massachusetts re-elected president, Jim Ragsdale of Arizona continues as vice president, Rick Burdsall of Illinois continues as secretary and treasurer, James Cochrane of Kansas and Eric Chaulsett of California continue as directors at large, Bruce Wilson of Idaho elected as director at large.

January 2016 Jim Ragsdale takes on the role of APNSS Auction Director.

May 2016 APNSS attends Compex show in Arlington Heights IL

April 2017 Editor Rick Burdsall completes 23rd edition (dated 2018) of Hebert's Catalogue.

May 2017 APNSS board appoints Bruce Wilson of Idaho to the vacant position of president, to fill the remainder of the term.

June 2017 2018 Hebert's mailed to all who pre-ordered.

November 2017 APNSS attends Chicagopex show in Itasca IL

June 2018 APNSS attends Compex show in River Grove IL

January 2019 APNSS elections for three year terms Jan. 1, 2019 - Dec. 31, 2021. Bruce Wilson of Idaho re-elected APNSS president; Jim Ragsdale of Indiana and Arizona re-elected vice president; Rick Burdsall of Illinois re-elected secretary and treasurer; Eric Chaulsett of California and Jim Cochrane of Kansas re-elected directors at large; Jack Salyer of Arizona and Merle Wright of Texas elected directors at large.

February 2020 APNSS board appoints Juan Riera of Florida to the vacant position of historian.

June 2021 APNSS attends MSDA show in Milwaukee.

December 2021 APNSS elections for three year terms Jan. 1, 2022 - Dec. 31, 2024. Bruce Wilson of Idaho re-elected APNSS president; Jim Ragsdale of Indiana and Arizona re-elected vice president; Rick Burdsall of Illinois re-elected secretary and treasurer; Eric Chaulsett of California, Jim Cochrane of Kansas and Merle Wright of Texas re-elected directors at large; Steve Schulkin of California elected director at large.

November 2022 APNSS attends Chicagopex show in Itasca IL

August 2023 APNSS board appoints Eric Chaulsett of California to serve the remainder of the late Bruce Wilson's term as President.

November 2023 Editor Rick Burdsall completes 24th edition (dated 2024) of Hebert's Catalogue.

January 2024 APNSS board appoints APNSS Historian Juan Riera as Director-at-Large.
