a free classified ad, now 50. Additional words for longer ads are
still 10¢ each. Contact Plate Numbers editor Milt
Keiles with your classified ad copy and to arrange payment for longer ads.

Additional details on
the

page.
October 4: VSC reports that Donna in Providence has a new printing
of the $1 Wisdom stamp with a 2008 year date. If Scott follows its
usual policy, this would merit a major catalog number. Plate number
details will be made available as soon as we know them.
October 3: Additional plate numbers announced or reported for new 2008
issues. Details on the 2008 page.
SEPTEMBER 2008
September 7: A number of examples of imperforate PNS have been added
to the Transportation Coils page.

issues. Details on the 2008 page.
September 2: Plate number examples of the Allied Military Government
stamps that were issued for use in Austria, Italy and Germany (Washington printings) have
been uploaded. View these examples through the
Possessions page.
September 1: I have seen the new 5¢ Toleware stamp with plate number
S2222222, and it also has a small 2007 date. This should make this
unannounced issue sufficiently different to justify a major Scott catalog
number. Additional details on the 2008
page.
September 1: Spoke too soon on the plan for the Hebert's listing on
the 2008 duck stamp. Turns out there is no Copyright single, either
-- in fact, there are no marginal markings at all. It will be listed
with the comment "No plate number." Additional details about all
current issues appear on the 2008 page.
AUGUST 2008
August 29: For the first time since they were introduced in 1934,
this year's duck stamp has been printed without any plate numbers.
The next edition of the Hebert's Catalog will list and price a Copyright
single, but there are no plate numbers. Additional details about all
current issues appear on the 2008 page.
August 28: Additional plate numbers announced or reported for new 2008
issues. Details on the 2008 page.
August 17: The 2009 U.S. stamp program has been announced.
Additional stamps are expected, some to meet the rate change expected in
April or May, and others because of the tradition of saving a surprise or
two for the new year. Details on the 2009
page.
August 13: The July/August issue of Plate Numbers is in
the mail. The 160-lot mail auction closing date is September 15.
August 10: Additional Scott Catalog numbers reported for new 2008
issues. Details on the 2008 page.

July 18: Additional Scott Catalog numbers reported for new 2008
issues. Details on the 2008 page.
JUNE 2008
June 23: Additional images of early revenue plate numbers have been
added to the Revenues page. In fact, there were so many that it
necessitated splitting the web page into separate Early Revenues and
Documentary Stamps pages.

change issues and commemoratives. Details on the 2008 page.
April 26: We continue to add plate number singles of the AMG issues,
courtesy of APNSS member Wallace Cleland. Issues of the
AMG in Italy are now available.
April 25: A number of PNS images of precanceled
postage dues have been added. Please
let the Webmaster know if you can share additional precancel examples for
other denominations.
April 20: The recently announced water-activated pane of 100 Purple
Hearts stamps becomes the first water-activated commemorative stamp since
the 34¢ James Madison stamp in 2001. All the intervening ones have
been self-adhesives. (Unless you consider the Purple Heart stamps as
"regular issues" or "special stamps" closer to definitives due to their
small size and the fact that they have been reissued for each rate
change... in which case, we've had no water-activated commemoratives
since 2001.)
April 14: New plate numbers reported for
new issues. Details on the 2008 page.
April 13: APNSS member Wallace Cleland has graciously shared images
of his award-winning Allied Military Government collection. The
first Installment shows plate number singles (photographically cropped
from larger multiples) of the AMG in France.

February 1: The January/February issue of Plate Numbers
is in the mail to our members. The 160-lot mail auction closing
date is March 15.
JANUARY 2008
January 15 - Reminder: Our web services aggressively filter what they believe is
"spam." Sometimes, legitimate emails are caught up in this cycle.
If you send an email message to the APNSS Secretary or another
officer and don't get a prompt reply, please send it again. The way
it works is: emails to our service (such as secretary at apnss dot
org) are automatically forwarded to an actual email address (in my case,
reb608y at yahoo dot com). Either our service or Yahoo might
consider your email spam. Be sure to include APNSS in the subject
line, and we can generally find it and respond.
Note: all email addresses on our web site are intentionally not
formatted, to thwart spammers. Their email "harvesting" programs
and web crawlers typically search for the 'at' sign within an email address, and grab the
text around it, which they then sell to disreputable types offering
questionable pharmaceuticals, opportunities to help the family of a former
Nigerian politician illegally transfer money using your personal bank
account, dating services, refinancing opportunities, surveys and other
scams. Don't fall for these scams! If you don't recognize the
sender, or it's not something you asked to be sent to you, it's probably
not a valid message. Just delete it. If it was an offer that
sounded too good to be true, it probably was....
January 15: APNSS member Larry Cohen has discovered that some of the plate numbers
used to print the 2¢ Harding Memorial stamp used the letter 'I' instead of
the numeral '1' in the plate numbers. Due to the way the plates were
produced, the same plate number (with either '1' or 'I') should appear
consistently in all positions. We hope Larry will continue studying
this issue and publish further details of his find. This discovery
is over 80 years after the stamps were produced! Examples can be
found on the Harding Memorial page.
January 11: Plate number collector Kamran Iftikhar has reported finding new plate number
V22222 on a booklet pane of the (41¢) Liberty Bell "Forever" stamps, Scott
4125a. It was originally issued with plate number V11111, and postal
policy has been to use only one set of plate numbers unless there were
significant design changes, despite protests from collectors. It is
not clear if this is a mistake, if the USPS policy has been rescinded or
modified, or there is some significant difference between stamps produced
from the plate V11111 and plate V22222 varieties.
January 10: Virtual Stamp Club members Mark Alan and Glenn Estus were the 10,000th and 10,001st visitors to the
APNSS web site, www.apnss.org, since
the "number of hits" counter was installed in May 2004 (we've been online
since September 2003). No, we don't and can't track who visits and
when! But when I saw that we were at 9995 or so, I let people on VSC
know that if they hurried, they might be the 10,000th visitor, and they
both let us know.
A number of PNS-related questions, and many of our new members, come to us
through our web site.
New plate number 5591 reported on a full sheet of 400 of the imperforate
1¢ Franklin stamp, Scott 383. Additional details on the
New Plates page.
